How it keeps time
The clock syncs against anscalc.com itself — the same server this page came from — so no third-party time service ever sees your visit. It takes several timed readings of the server's clock, intersects them across a second boundary, and states the accuracy that measurement actually achieved. Wall-clock grade, and it says so; if the server can't be reached it shows your device clock, honestly labelled.
Between syncs, time is held on a monotonic clock that ignores any changes to your device's own clock, and the display re-syncs when you return to the tab or after the machine sleeps.
Is the UK on GMT or BST? GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is UTC+0 all year round; in summer the UK runs on BST (British Summer Time, UTC+1), not GMT — so "GMT" and "UK time" differ for half the year. This page labels the UK clock correctly by season, which most clock sites fudge.
