Ans and Ans Graph are built to be private. The short version: the apps collect nothing, and this website uses only privacy-first, cookieless analytics.
This website
Privacy is baked into everything we do. This website uses Cloudflare’s privacy-first, cookieless analytics to count page visits and see which pages are useful — that is the only measurement here. We do not use tracking cookies, we do not track you across the web, and we never collect personal data. There are no ads or sponsored placements, advertising pixels, data brokers, or surveillance-style analytics; those are not welcome here. The count is anonymous and aggregate.
On the home page, the Ans Calculator page and the worked examples, Safari may show Apple’s native Smart App Banner for Ans Calculator. It is deliberately kept off the free science tools and unit converters. This is our own product link, not a paid placement or third-party advertisement. Safari may contact Apple to retrieve the App Store information it displays; Ans receives no personal data from that lookup.
Everything below is about the apps, which go further still and collect nothing at all.
What Ans stores
Ans keeps a small amount of data locally on your device so the app works the way you left it:
- your settings (angle unit, display format, exact-result preference, haptics, display text size);
- the values and names of your variables;
- a small tally used only to decide whether to show Apple’s rating prompt once — roughly how many calculations you have done and on how many separate days. Both stop counting at the point the decision is made, so Ans never knows more than “at least 20 calculations across at least 3 days”, and it never records what you calculated.
This is stored in your device’s local app storage (UserDefaults). It never leaves your device, is never transmitted anywhere, and is deleted if you delete the app.
What Ans does not do
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for or log in to.
- No advertising. Ans contains no ads and no advertising frameworks.
- No analytics. Ans includes no analytics or measurement code of any kind.
- No tracking. Ans has no trackers and no third-party code at all.
- No network use. Ans itself makes no network connections and works entirely offline. You may once see Apple’s standard rating prompt: iOS presents and handles it, and any rating you leave goes to the App Store, not to Ans. Ans sends and receives nothing.
Widgets and Shortcuts
Ans provides Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, a Control Centre control, and an “Open Ans” shortcut. To display your latest answer and let you browse recent calculations, Ans stores up to 12 completed expression-and-result pairs in a private App Group container on your device. This information is available only to the Ans app and its widget extension. It is never transmitted, used for tracking or shared with another app or organisation.
Ans Graph
Ans Graph is a separate, paid-once app with no subscription. It works fully offline and has no accounts, advertising, tracking, analytics SDK or third-party dependencies. The app makes no network connections: nothing you enter, draw or save leaves your device.
Saved graphs and Ans Graph settings are stored locally on your device. The Ans Graph widget reads a small snapshot file from the app’s own private App Group container so it can draw your graph on the Home Screen. That file is available only to Ans Graph and its widget extension. The widget sends nothing anywhere.
