Definitions

  • The pound-foot is 1.355 818 N·m. Torque wrenches sold in the UK and US are commonly marked in it.
  • The newton metre is the SI unit of torque. It has the same dimensions as the joule but is never written as one — torque is not energy.
  • Torque is force multiplied by perpendicular distance. A newton metre has the same dimensions as a joule, but torque and energy are not interchangeable quantities.
  • Every unit in the menus is exact by definition, so the only rounding on this page is the one you choose for the display.

Every value is converted into newton metres and then back out into the unit you asked for. One route covers every pairing in the menus, so an unusual combination is no less accurate than a common one, and adding a unit affects only that unit.
