Definitions

  • The pound per square inch is exactly 6894.757 293 Pa. UK and US tyre gauges are still marked in it.
  • The bar is exactly 100 000 Pa, near enough to atmospheric pressure at sea level to be a convenient working unit.
  • Every unit here is defined against the Pa.
  • 13 of the 17 units are exact by definition; the rest are conventional or measured values. The display says which kind you are looking at.

How it works

Every value is converted into pascals and then back out into the unit you asked for. One route covers every pairing in the menus, so an unusual combination is no less accurate than a common one, and adding a unit affects only that unit.

Display precision sets a maximum number of significant figures and trims trailing zeroes, so it changes what you see and never what was calculated. The editable box always holds a plain number at full working precision, so you can carry on from either side.
