Assumptions

  • The sample is uniform, so one density describes all of it.
  • Mass and volume refer to the same sample under the same conditions.
  • Temperature and pressure are treated as fixed; either can change a material's density.
  • Mass, volume and density are non-negative, and volume must be greater than zero when finding density.

How it works

Density is mass per unit volume. A denser material packs more mass into the same space, so divide mass by volume to find ρ.

For exam rearrangements, multiply ρ by V to find mass, or divide mass by ρ to find volume. Leave that quantity blank and the calculator performs the rearrangement.

Every entry is converted to SI internally. Results use up to three significant figures by default, without adding meaningless trailing zeroes.
